Terms of service

Last updated: October 10, 2025

Welcome to Alinea.cloud — a companion service for the open-source Alinea CMS.

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Alinea.cloud (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

Overview

Alinea is an open-source, Git-based content management system (“CMS”) primarily designed for Next.js websites deployed in serverless environments.

Alinea.cloud is an optional hosted service provided by the primary developers of Alinea (collectively, “we,” “us,” or “our”) to extend CMS functionality in contexts where serverless environments lack certain capabilities.

Service Description

By registering a project and linking it to a GitHub repository, Alinea.cloud facilitates the following:

  • Authentication via OAuth2 and user/team role management

  • Storage of temporary draft data in a managed database

  • Publishing content by committing changes directly to your linked GitHub repository

  • Fetching content history from your linked GitHub repository

  • Managing user invitations to your CMS project

Alinea.cloud does not:

  • Host your website’s published content

  • Provide an API to fetch content data (this should be handled by your own serverless deployment)

Open Beta Disclaimer

Alinea.cloud is currently in open beta.

The Service is provided “as is” and without any warranties of any kind, express or implied.

We make no guarantees regarding uptime, data integrity, performance, or compatibility.

By using the Service, you acknowledge that data loss, downtime, or unexpected behavior may occur, and you agree that we cannot be held responsible for any resulting damages or losses.

User Responsibilities

You agree to:

  • Use the Service only for lawful purposes

  • Maintain your own backups of important content and data

  • Ensure that your linked GitHub repository permissions are configured securely

  • Not misuse the Service in ways that could harm its operation or other users

You remain solely responsible for:

  • The content stored in your GitHub repositories

  • Managing user access within your CMS

  • Compliance with GitHub’s own Terms of Service

Data & Privacy

Alinea.cloud temporarily stores certain user and project data necessary for the Service to function, including:

  • OAuth2 user identifiers and team associations

  • Draft content in an intermediate database

  • Basic project configuration metadata

We do not host or permanently retain published content.

For more details on how we handle user information, please refer to our Privacy Policy.

Intellectual Property

The Alinea CMS is released as open source under its respective license. Alinea.cloud’s hosted service, including its infrastructure, user interface, and related assets, remains the property of its developers.

You retain full ownership of all content within your linked repositories.

Service Availability & Termination

We reserve the right to:

  • Modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time, with or without notice

  • Terminate or restrict access to any account that violates these Terms

You may stop using the Service at any time by unlinking your project or deleting your account.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, alinea.cloud and its developers shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to data loss, business interruption, or system failure.

Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction with the Service is to discontinue its use.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms periodically. The most current version will always be available at https://www.alinea.cloud/terms-of-service. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
